What steps should I take if my internet speed is slower than expected?

If your SwoopFiber internet speed is slower than expected, you can take several steps to troubleshoot and potentially improve the situation. Here's some steps you can take:

  1. Run a Speed Test: Use the CommandIQ app speed test tool to measure your current upload and download speeds. Compare the results with the speeds promised by your SwoopFiber plan.
  2. Check Multiple Devices: Test the internet speed on multiple devices to determine if the issue is device-specific. This helps identify whether the problem is with a particular device or the overall connection.
  3. Connect via Ethernet Cable: If possible, connect a device directly to the router using an Ethernet cable. This eliminates potential Wi-Fi-related issues and provides a more accurate assessment of your internet speed.
  4. Restart ONT and Router: Power cycle the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) and router. Unplug the power cords, wait for about 10 seconds, and then plug them back in. Allow the devices to restart.
  5. Check for Background Processes: Ensure that no other devices or applications are consuming significant bandwidth on your network. Background updates, downloads, or streaming on multiple devices can impact internet speed.
  6. Check for Interference: Identify and minimize potential sources of interference, such as other electronic devices, walls, or appliances. Position the router in an open space for optimal signal strength.
